Organic Produce…What’s the Big Deal?

It’s Sunday morning, you’re strolling down the produce aisle of your local grocery store. You spot bright orange bell peppers and lush leafy greens, you smell the sharpness of mint, cilantro and freshly picked this and that…. you go to reach for a bunch of organic bananas and think to yourself, “Does it really matter if I eat an organic banana over a conventional one? What’s the big deal anyway?”. This, my fellow shopper, is a conversation I love having, and you and I are going to have it today

Organic VS Conventional.. Let’s Talk About It

You’ve probably heard a lot of fuss about pesticides, toxins and just generally yucky farming practices that turn what SHOULD be a toxin-free meal into a potential healthcare nightmare. We have enough to worry about on the daily with hectic jobs, energizer bunny kids, strained relationships with our mothers, various other scary things going on in the world… we do NOT need to be worried about whether or not this banana is gonna cause more harm than good. We want the food we eat to be hearty fuel that’s going to carry us through the days, months, years, and not land us on a, let’s face it, waiting list for a healthcare provider who can’t see us until September. So. What’s the big deal?

The deal is, organic farmers don’t use the harmful stuff conventional farmers do. Soil additives, harmful pesticides, radiation, and things that generally make your body function sub-optimally. Over time, regularly consuming pesticides may cause health issues. The body wants to be in a state of homeostasis. This is when the body can regulate itself (and be like, at a baseline, man) despite outside influences. If you’re sick, you’ll get better. If you have a cut, it will heal. The body LOVES to heal itself. There are some situations that throw off the body’s natural healing mechanisms, however. For example, if you aren’t drinking enough water, you’ll be out of balance. If you drink TOO MUCH water, you’ll also be out of balance (we’re a bit delicate. Like plants). Consistent exposure to toxins can also throw us off. Does this mean we’re gonna die if we don’t reach for the organic banana? Heck no! Remember, fed is best.

“Getting the suggested amount of fruits and vegetables every day is more important than choosing those that are organic or conventionally farmed.” -Mayo Clinic, 2025

BUT. Giving your body the best fighting chance is even better. And here at Nature’s, we’re here to help you fight.
