Farmer Highlight: Kent Family Growers

Local, Organic and Grown by People You Actually Know

Let’s take a moment to talk about one of our all-time favorite local farms: Kent Family Growers. If you’ve ever walked out of Nature’s Storehouse with a bag full of gorgeous carrots, greens that actually taste like something, or one of those “how-is-this-so-sweet” sweet onions, you might already be a fan.

Based out of Lisbon, NY, Kent Family Growers has been growing certified organic vegetables since 1996, which means they’ve been doing the organic thing longer than TikTok has been doing dance trends. Their soil game is strong, their weed control is on point, and they’re not messing around when it comes to composting and cover cropping. In short: they care deeply about what they grow, how they grow it, and who they grow it for. (Spoiler alert: that’s us.)

At Nature’s, we’ve been working with Dan Kent and his team for years, and every season they knock it out of the park. We’re not just talking kale and carrots, we’re talking about the kind of produce that still has a little dirt on it, in the best possible way. You can taste the freshness. You can smell the difference. (You can also chase your kids around with one of their oversized zucchinis if you’re feeling unhinged.)

The best part? These folks are just as committed to building community as they are to building soil. They show up at market, partner with local co-ops, and keep small stores like ours stocked with the good stuff. Real food from real people, grown right down the road.

So next time you bite into one of our local carrots and think, “Dang, that’s a good carrot,” just know that somewhere out in Lisbon, the Kent crew is doing a little victory lap. And we’re cheering them on every step of the way.

Stay tuned for more on what’s coming in from their fields- We’ll be shouting it from the (kale-covered) rooftops.

That’s all for now, Locavores! We’ll see you next time!
